art in science award 2014

The art in science award 2014, with a prize of US $5,000 will be presented for the best scientific manuscript in the field of dynamic load distribution in biomechanics. The paper must be entirely original, not published at the time of the meeting in any journal nor submitted for publication to any journal or book. The paper must describe a scientific study including pressure distribution measurement.

Deadline for submission of abstracts is March 14, 2014.
Six of these abstracts will be nominated for the art in science award by April 7, 2014.

The nominated authors will be requested to send a full length (25 pages maximum, double spaced; The general abstract instruction to authors may be found in the Authors section at www.elsevier.com/locate/clinbiomech) paper by May 20, 2014, and will present the paper at the meeting in an approximately 30 minute talk. The review of the papers will be conducted by a prominent panel of experts. The art in science award will be presented to the winner at the banquet.

Presentation instructions (for art in science award presentation):
The nominated authors will be requested to present at the ESM meeting in an approximately 30 minute talk. Presenters will be given 25 minutes for their presentation, with a 5 minute question period. Please keep in mind the schedule must be maintained, so please organize your slides appropriately. Presentations should be made in either .ppt or .pptx format. All presentations will be copied to one computer for presentation purposes. Please organize your imbedded files for transport prior to your presentation day.

Oral presentation

Abstracts for oral presentations in the field of load distribution measurement not participating in the art in science award must be submitted by March 14, 2014. Participants will be informed of presentation acceptance by April 7, 2014.

Award for the Best Presentation will be presented and the award recipient will receive US $1,000.

Presentation Instructions (for oral presentation): Presenters will be given 10 minutes for their presentation, with a 2 minute question period. Most Promising Proposal MPP

Anyone who has not defended his or her PhD prior to the first conference day (July 2, 2014) is eligible for this award. The goal is to present a project proposal which includes the investigation of load distribution on the human or animal body. The topic area can be freely chosen and a document of maximum 2 pages (excl. reference list) can be submitted to the session chair one hour before the award session starts (7 printed copies have to be provided). No prior disclosure of the title, topic area or any details of the proposed study are allowed. Proposals fitting the requirements will be presented in a separate award session on the 3rd day of ESM 2014. The main author will have 3 minutes for presentation of the study background, concept and plan followed by a 3-min discussion. The presentation should be only verbal, no slides or posters are allowed. The award committee will consist of 3 members of the scientific committee plus 3 randomly selected ad hoc members. The winner will be the most innovative, relevant and most convincingly presented proposal. The winner will be presented at the final conference banquet. The prize money is US $1,000.

Poster presentation

Abstracts for poster presentations in the field of load distribution measurement not participating in the art in science award must be submitted by March 14, 2014. Participants will be informed of presentation acceptance by April 7, 2014.

Award for the Best Poster will be presented and the award recipient will receive US $1,000.

The poster should be in A0 (841 x 1189 mm) format with the text not smaller than font size 32. The title and authors, with affiliations, should be clearly stated. The poster should be broadly divided into sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions. Poster will be viewed during the poster session.

This year again we will offer a thematic posters sessions. All poster presenters are asked to prepare a 2-minute PowerPoint presentation.
The presentation can include maximum 2 slides to convey the core idea and possibly the main result of your study. It is not expected that you present any details or a large amount of information. It is rather expected that you convince the listeners to come and see your poster, where you will then have time to provide them with all the details of your work and discuss your findings. The time for the PowerPoint presentation is limited to 2 min (signal after 1:45 min). Posters are to be hung up prior to the first keynote lecture (before 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 3rd) and will remain on the boards for the whole day. Pins for fixation will be provided. Please remember to take the poster down at the end of the day. The 2-slide presentation should be provided per email prior to the conference This email address is being protected from spambots.
